So there’s a prevailing thought that runs like a thread through the fabric of our culture that being sober must somehow be boring.
But I’m confident the content on Sober Galaxy will prove that nothing could be further from the truth.
Some of the most interesting and fun people I’ve met no longer drink booze.
The best times I’ve ever had – the most spontaneous, memorable, and meaningful – have happened when I’ve been sober.
I’m not going to pretend I didn’t have some amazing times when under the influence of the great hop or fermented potatoes. I did.
And by the same token, I’m not going to lament anyone who drinks, or enjoys a vice or substance to help them relax.
If you still enjoy a drink, and it’s not getting in the way of anything for you, then by all means – enjoy it – and have a bevvy for those of us who no longer feel the need to drink.
But I really believe we need to shake this illusion that by not drinking, you must somehow be boring.
There is far more depth to the fun and pleasure you can have when you’re not blocking yourself off with booze.
At first, it might sound alien. It can take a while to get used to enjoying certain occasions when you’ve only got a glass of lemonade in your hand. But you can, and will, get used to it…
…to such an extent that you’ll soon find yourself feeling grateful that you’re not actually drinking alcohol: that you can taste, appreciate and savour the moments you’re experiencing.
Going to gigs, going on dates, having days out. These can be so much more fun when you’re not getting drunk.
If you’re curious about being sober, but are afraid that you’ll longer be seen as fun – I promise, you’ll soon be more fun sober than you ever were after a few drinks.
